Born and raised in Palm Springs, Linda Hough draws her inspiration from the muted color palettes, rolling hills and unexpected bursts of lush growth that are signatures of the California desert. Hough began her career as weaver creating vivid and visceral tapestries that were featured in numerous exhibitions, including the Festival of the Arts in Laguna Beach.

Her painting emerged from a desire to expand her use of color and to explore the layers of light -- the inner and outer worlds -- she saw reflected in her subjects. Hough spent almost a decade in the village of Vence in the south of France, exhibiting her work and perfecting the layered glazing technique she studied with realist painter John Nava.

She paints with oils because of the tactile, sensuous experience and because it’s the medium that conveys the most light.

“My work is about beauty and simplicity of form. Beauty in form is healing.”

Hough’s travels to Guatemala, New Mexico, Italy, Switzerland, London, Paris and Amsterdam have impacted her style and subject matter. Her formal training includes workshops with Carol Mothner and Sherrie McGraw and an MA in Fiber Arts from Cal State University, Fullerton.
